Quad Analog Switch Combines Ultra Fast Switching and Low Power Consumption

Milpitas, Calif. — Intersil Corp.'s ISL83699, a bi-directional, dual double-pole/double-throw analog switch offers precise switching capability from a single 1.65-V to 3.6-V supply. The ISL83699 is a true bi-directional switch with <0.5Ω of resistance over the full input signal range. It operates from a nominal single 3.3-V supply and comes in TSSOP and ultra small QFN packaging for space-constrained applications such as handheld and cellular phone products.

The ISL83699 is suited for portable battery powered equipment due to its low operating supply voltage, low power consumption (2.7μW maximum), low leakage currents (45 nA maximum), and packaging. The ISL83699 is built in an advanced sub-micron CMOS process and yet has up to 9 kV of electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance, more than double the capability of its closest competitor, according to the company. The ISL83699 is a guaranteed break-before-make dual double-pole, double-throw switch. When operated from a 3.3-V supply, the device has a typical on-resistance flatness of 0.06 Ω, making it suitable for use in low distortion audio paths such as in MP3 players in cell phones, and CD audio devices.

The ISL83699 consists of four single-pole/double-throw switches. It is configured as a dual double-pole/double-throw device with two-logic control inputs that control two single-pole/double-throw switches each. This configuration is particularly useful for handling stereo signals such as midi and polyphonic tones, FM radio and MP3 signal sources in top-end cell phones and personal media players. The configuration can also be used as a dual differential 2-to-1 multiplexer/demultiplexer. The ultra low on-resistance and on-resistance flatness provide very low insertion loss and distortion for applications that require hi fidelity signal reproduction.

Key features include:
* Guaranteed break-before-make quad double-pole/double-throw switch
* 1.8 V logic compatible when operated from a nominal 3.3-V supply
* Low on-resistance over full input range — 0.26 ohms at 3.0 V, 0.45 ohms at 1.8 V
* Typical on-resistance flatness and channel matching of 0.06 ohms at 3.3 V
* Ultra-fast switching ” 10 ns turn-on, 7 ns turn-off typical at 3 V
* 16-lead TSSOP packaging or ultra small 3mm x 3mm 16-lead QFN

Applications include handheld and portable consumer products, smart phone, cell phone, PDA's
CD and DVD players, personal media players, portable medical products, handheld GPS products,
audio routing and switching products.

The ISL83699 is available now. The suggested resale price in 100 to 999-unit quantities is $1.25 for TSSOP packaging and $1.30 in small QFN packaging. Pricing is available upon request for tape and reel and Pb-free packaging.
