Greensboro, N.C.Optimized for streaming video applications, RF Micro Devices has introduced the ML5825 frequency translator (transverter) that is designed to up-convert transmitted 2.4 GHz signals to 5.8 GHz and down-convert received 5.8 GHz signals to 2.4 GHz.
The addition of this frequency translation functionality to a pre-existing 2.4 GHz ISM band radio allows OEMs to quickly bring to market products for operation in the 5.8 GHz ISM band, including digital cordless phones and custom wireless data systems such as streaming audio and video appliances.
The ML5825 incorporates, on a single die, a VCO, PLL-based synthesizer, low noise amplifier (LNA), receive and transmit bandpass filtering and mixers and transmit pre-driver. By offering a digitally controlled 18 dB gain step, the ML5825 allows radio designers to optimize third order input intercept point (IIP3) performance and noise figure based on specific application needs. Additionally, the ML5825 offers a low power standby mode of 10 microamps to minimize average power consumption, leading to longer battery life in portable applications.
The ML5825 is housed in a 4 x 5 x 0.9 mm, 28-pin QFN package.
