Silicon tuner meets ATSC/NTSC requirements

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX3540, a highly integrated, single-conversion television tuner for ATSC and NTSC applications. This device meets the sensitivity and adjacent-channel guidelines specified by ATSC Recommended Practice A/74, while consuming only 760 mW. To achieve this RF performance, the tuner integrates a tracking filter and high-linearity front-end.

The MAX3540 also reduces power consumption by eliminating the second frequency conversion used in many other silicon tuners. Because it is a single-conversion tuner, the MAX3540 requires only a single SAW filter. Incorporating both RF and IF AGC amplifiers, this device is suitable for televisions, set-top boxes, and USB memory sticks.

The MAX3540 covers the full 54-MHz to 860-MHz frequency range, providing a standard 44-MHz IF output that is compatible with almost all existing ATSC and NTSC demodulators. This device operates from a single 3.3-V supply and is fully specified over the 0°C to +85°C temperature range. The MAX3540 is housed in a 7 x 7-mm, 48-pin flip-chip package.
