Sunnyvale, CA — Advanced Analogic Technologies, Inc. (AnalogicTech), a developer of innovative power management solutions, today announced the AAT3682, a new lithium-ion/polymer linear battery charger with an integrated pass device. Designed for compact portable applications, the AAT3682 supports all charging modes and features an embedded microcontroller serial interface to communicate the state of the battery to the system.
“Space is always a scarce commodity, particularly in portable consumer applications like MP3 players and PDAs,” said Erik Ogren, Product Marketing Manager at AnalogicTech. “By integrating the pass device into the battery charger, the AAT3682 reduces external parts count and, in the process, reduces the system footprint.”
The AAT3682 supplies a 650mA charging current over a 4.7V to 6.0V input range. It supports all charging phases, including preconditioning or trickle charge for deep cell discharge conditioning, constant current for maximum charging speed, and constant voltage for final battery top-off. An embedded microcontroller serial interface indicates to the system the state of the battery, whether it is charging or in an error condition.
Quiescent current is typically 0.5mA. In deep sleep mode, the device draws only 3μA of current (typical).
Specified over the -20 to 70 degree centigrade temperature range, the AAT3682 is available immediately in a 16-pin QFN44 package. The device sells for $1.27 in 1,000-piece quantities.
