Software Tool Aids Design of Active Filters

Dallas, TX (February 11, 2004) – Easing the design process for its customers, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) announced today the new version of its FilterPro design tool which helps designers create active filters that reduce unwanted signal frequencies. Originally created by the company's Burr-Brown product group, FilterPro is a Windows-based online software tool that aids customers in designing high-pass and low-pass filters using op amps, resistors and capacitors.

Incorporating a new “high-pass” function, FilterPro fully supports differential filter circuits, as well as Bessell, Butterworth and Chebychev filter types. With FilterPro, users can design filters from 1 to 10 poles and save their design as the default.

FilterPro users can enter any capacitor value desired in each stage of a low-pass filter, or allow the computer to select for them and watch the resulting response. The response of the filter is displayed on a graph, showing gain, phase and group delay over frequency. In addition, an “always on” prompt window provides context-sensitive help information to the designer.

FilterPro MFB and Sallen-Key Design Program is a Windows application that designs Multiple-Feedback and Sallen-Key low-pass and high-pass filters using opamps, resistors and capacitors. It also supports a fully-differential version of the MFB circuit.

This program supports Bessell, Butterworth, and Chebychev filter types and can be used to design filters from 1 to 10 poles. The capacitor values in each stage can be either selected by the computer or entered by the designer.
An “always on” prompt window provides context-sensitive help information to the user. The response of the filter is displayed on a graph, showing gain, phase and group delay over frequency.
FilterPro MFB and Sallen-Key Program will install on Win9X and WinNT systems.
