Sunnyvale, Calif.Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX8815A 1A step-up converter featuring efficiency of 97%, low quiescent current of 30microamps, and a low-noise, forced-PWM mode.
Designed for input from two NiMH/NiCd AA batteries or a single Li+ battery, this boost converter provides an adjustable (3.3V to 5V) or preset (5V) output from a 1.2V to 5.5V input. When the output is set to 5V with the feedback pin grounded, the MAX8815A only requires three external components to provide up to 1A. For further space savings, it integrates a True Shutdown load-disconnect switch and internal compensation. Space-constrained applications include handheld communication devices, media players, and digital cameras.
The MAX8815A includes numerous protection features such as output-overload and short-circuit protection; inrush-current limiting in soft-start; and thermal shutdown. Available in a tiny, 3mm x 3mm, 10-pin TDFN package, this device is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended industrial temperature range.
Pricing: Starts at $1.14 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs and time to market.
Availability: Now.
