Sunnyvale, Calif.—Maxim says its MAX6638, a thermal sensor with ±1°C accuracy, is the industry's first to include two independent SMBus serial ports, which allow two controllers simultaneous access to temperature data for next-generation notebook computers with upgradeable graphics systems.
The dual SMBus interface lets a GPU card controller and a CPU board controller access the temperature data
of the GPU chip and graphics card. The device also offers one programmable over-temperature output and two programmable ALERT outputs.
