Teridian launches third generation power meter ICs

Irvine, Calif.—Teridian Semiconductor Corp. has launched its third generation of electricity metering chips that includes residential single phase, commercial and industrial three phase ICs, offering up to 256K bytes of storage with 10 MIPS processing power, advanced power management, LCD contrast adjust, and 0.5 second/day hardware RTC which consumes only 0.5µA.

Teridian's 71M653x series addresses increasing demand for large-scale smart metering solutions in North America, Europe and Asia where two-way communication with a smart grid or smart home network, remote meter reading, service disconnect, and associated security and firmware-download features have become requirements, according to the company.

The 71M653x devices incorporate Teridian's unique metrology architecture built around Single Converter Technology with a 22-bit delta-sigma converter with up to seven analog inputs, differential sensing and a 32-bit customizable metrology processor.

Teridian's extensive portfolio of SOC solutions for metering support CT, shunt and Rogowski sensors, up to class 0.2 accuracy at “40°C to +85°C, simultaneous narrow/broad band metrology, harmonic analysis, tamper detection. Third-generation devices support RF or PLC communications processing and offer OEMs an ability to differentiate their products.

Pricing: The 71M6531D single-phase SoC is priced at $3.50, and the 71M6533 three-phase SoC is priced at $4.75 in 10,000 unit quantities.
Availability: Sampling.
