Nowadays the protection of the environment from pollution is one of the top priorities for many big companies operating in the electronics sector, like for example Apple (see Figure 1):

Apple is adopting many solutions to realize low impact production plants and data centers as well which are powered by renewable energy sources like sun, wind, and biogas. Moreover, the Apple facilities are designed to be as small as possible, in order to increase energetic efficiency.
Electronics plays a big role in this process: for example, let’s take a look at a biogas system for producing renewable energy in a production plant that integrates many electronics systems such as the electric power facility of the power generating system, using biogas from garbage. See Figure 2:

Electronics technology can also help to realize the control system of a renewable power generating system, by means of the presence of temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and control systems. (see Figure 3)

The contribution of electronics technology also includes hybrid electric vehicles because the latest cars and trucks require many power management ICs like for example the DC/DC power conversion block of the hybrid electric motor shown in the Figure 4 below:
