Triple-throw switches boost audio signals

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products Inc. says these dual, single-pole, triple-throw analog switches handle negative signals with a single positive power supply to reduce external components and improve audio signal quality.

The MAX4908 and MAX4909 analog switches feature integrated shunt resistors to ground. This feature is said to reduce audio popping and clicking sounds by depleting the capacitive charge, which commonly builds up on the unconnected port of the switch, to ground.

In addition, an extremely low 0.38-ohm on-resistance R(ON), a 0.35-ohm R(ON) flatness, and a low 0.02 percent total harmonic distortion yield excellent audio signal quality, according to Maxim.

Applications for the switches include portable handheld applications like cell phones, MP3 players, PDAs and notebook computers.
