Sunnyvale, Calif.Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX2170E/W RF tuner for triple-band, dual-mode mobile TV and digital radio in a fully RF-tested die.
Building on the success of the TQFN-packaged MAX2170ETL, the MAX2170E/W supports implementation of system-in-package (SIP) products for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast (T-DMB) and ultra-small, digital audio broadcast (DAB) modules. By using RF-tested dice, this tuner provides cost reduction through higher module yield, making it ideal for fixed or mobile DAB and T-DMB applications.
The MAX2170E/W contains all necessary blocks to implement a low-IF TV/radio tuner, except for a crystal and the L-band filtering required by some applications. This tuner is capable of receiving VHF band-III, L-band, and FM broadcasts with a minimum of external components.
The MAX2170E/W integrates a low-noise, L-band front-end (with a noise figure of 3dB) to eliminate the need for an external, low-noise amplifier circuit, thus reducing cost and saving space. When tuning VHF frequencies, its on-chip tracking filter rejects out-of-band interference; the tracking filter also doubles as an FM band-select filter. This highly integrated device achieves a sensitivity of -99dBm at L-band frequencies, -100dBm at VHF-III frequencies, and -109dBm at FM frequencies.
The MAX2170E/W operates from a 2.7V to 3.5V supply and consumes 150mW (typ) in L-band, low-power mode. It is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
Pricing: Starts at $3.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Availability: As a fully RF-tested die.
