Two-switch forward regulator boosts DC/DC designs

Santa Clara, Calif.—National Semiconductor says its LM5015 is the industry's first high-voltage, monolithic two-switch forward DC/DC regulator for power supply designs in telecommunications, automotive, and industrial applications.

Suited to both isolated and non-isolated converter designs, the LM5015, in a 14-pin TSSOP package, integrates two 75-volt n-channel MOSFETs (high-side, low-side) in the two-switch forward architecture, which cuts system losses and noise. The chip features an ultra-wide input voltage range ( 4.25 to 75 volts) and switching frequency (to 750 kHz) for forward and flyback converters.

The chip guarantees a peak current output of at least 1 amp. The current-mode part provides inherent ease-of-loop compensation and line feed-forward operation for maximum rejection of input transients.

Operating frequency is set with a single resistor. Its oscillator can also be synchronized to an external clock. Additional protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limiting, thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout and remote shutdown capability. The chip's TSSOP package features an exposed die attach pad to enhance thermal dissipation.
