Ultra-high-precision resistor offers ESD protection above 25 kV

Malvern, Pa. — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced the VSA101 axial Bulk Metal Z-Foil resistor for high-reliability applications. Based on Vishay's “Z- foil” technology, which provides a significant reduction of the resistive component's sensitivity to ambient temperature variations (TCR) and applied power changes (PCR), the VSA101 enables designers to achieve much better performance by combining a range of ultra-high-precision specifications in a single device.

The VSA101 resistor provides a low absolute temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ±0.05 ppm/°C from 0°C to +60°C and ±0.2 ppm/°C from -55°C to +125°C, +25°C ref., a power coefficient of resistance (PCR) of ±5 ppm at rated power, a tolerance of ±0.005%, and a load life stability of ±0.005%.

The VSA101 offers a load-life stability of ±0.005% for 2000 hours at +70°C at rated power, a power rating of 0.3 W at +125°C, a low voltage coefficient of <0.1 ppm/V, current noise of <-40 dB, and thermal EMF of 0.05 uV/°C. The resistor offers a fast rise time of 1.0 ns without ringing and features a non-inductive (<0.08 uH), non-capacitive design.

The Z-Foil resister can withstand electrostatic discharges exceeding 25 kV for increased reliability. Within a resistance range of 5Ω to 100 kΩ, any value at any tolerance is available through calibration at no additional cost. The new device is optimized for signal conditioning and high-precision instrumentation amplifiers for ultra-stable and high-reliability products in medical, test and measurement, military, aerospace, laboratory, down-hole, and high-end stereo equipment.
