Ultra-miniature packages house Bluetooth/ZigBee PAs

Santa Clara, Calif.—Need an ultra-small PA (power amplifier) package for designs running Class 1 Bluetooth or ZigBee ? One that's easy to implement without too many discrete components around it?

If so, check out these PA chips from semiconductor vendor California Eastern Laboratories (CEL). Its devices are housed in ultra-miniature 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.37-mm packages. They operate from 2.7-V to 3.6-V sources.

Developed primarily for 2.4-GHz to 2.5-GHz circuits, UPG2314T5N s are GaAs (gallium arsenide) HBT (heterojunction bipolar transistor) PA devices that can deliver up to +20-dBm (100-mW) output power, with just 65-mA of current draw.

These devices also have a gain control range of 23-dB. What's more, they can be readily integrated with CEL's ultra-miniature switch ICs for designs that require switched outputs.

Eval Boards

To help you design-in these PAs, they're also available on evaluation boards, either by themselves, or in combination with UPG2214TK switches. Eval boards are available through CEL offices or from Mouser Electronics .

UPG2314T5N PAs are priced at $1.20 a pop (in quantities of 10,000).
