South Portland, Maine Fairchild Semiconductor claims this Hi-Speed (480 Mbits/s) Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 switch provides the industry's highest electrostatic discharge protection.
Fairchild's dual, single-pole, single-throw (SPST), two-port FSUSB31 switch is suited for port isolation based on its ability to protect against ESD, excessive capacitance, noise and other factors that can negatively affect performance in ultra-portable products like media players, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras and notebook computers, said Patty Miske, switch marketing manager for Fairchild's Analog Products Group.
Features of the FSUSB31 switch include high ESD protection (up to 8 kilovolts) compared to similar products at 2 kV (typical), low on-capacitance of 6.5 picofarads (typical), low off-capacitance of 2.5 pF (typical) to optimize signal bandwidth, and a wide bandwidth (720 MHz) to facilitate excellent signal integrity, Miske said.
The FSUSB31 also saves battery power by drawing less than 1 microamp of current.
“The FSUSB31 combines optimum device characteristics into a very compact package. The result is a high-bandwidth USB switch that offers transparent switching for maintaining excellent signal integrity in multi-function designs,” Miske said.
The FSUSB31 is available in a lead-free MicroPak package (1.6 x 1.6 mm) that meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020C and is compliant with the European Union requirements now in effect.
Pricing for the FSUSB31 switch is 90 cents each in 1,000-piece quantities. Click here for the FSUSB31 data sheet.
