Zero-IF TV tuner eliminates SAW filters

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products has introduced a fully integrated, zero-IF (ZIF), direct-conversion TV tuner for digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T) applications including TVs, set-top boxes and automotive TV. By using unique ZIF architecture and integrating an RF tracking filter, the MAX3580 tuner eliminates the need for external discrete filtering components and a SAW filter required by older, IF-based tuners.

Operating from a single 3.3-V supply and consuming 650 mW of power, the MAX3580 is suitable for USB stick, automotive, and infotainment applications. The MAX3580 is housed in a 5 x 5 mm, 32-pin TQFN package with an exposed paddle. The extended operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.

Pricing: Starts at $5.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Availability: An evaluation kit and reference designs that combine the MAX3580 with OFDM demodulators are available to speed designs.
